From Jinan to Napa:
A Legacy of Heritage and Discovery

Zhang was born in Jinan, China, a city steeped in history and known for its reverence of Emperor Shun, a symbol of humility, kindness, and integrity. In ShunYi, a name meaning “descendant of Shun,” George carries that legacy forward in his life and work.

At the age of fourteen, George immigrated to the United States with his parents, seeking new opportunities. It was in this new landscape that he first discovered his love for wine, an experience that would shape his future in unexpected ways. While working in the banking industry after college, George was introduced to fine wine—and fascinated by the complexity and diversity of wine—he soon became obsessed and dedicated his free time to studying and understanding the craft.
